Context

User feedback says that the current dashboard doesn’t effectively highlight important account activities for admins.

Our dashboard has mainly been used for very specific onboarding tasks such connecting bank accounts and card programs. However, once those connections are established, the dashboard turns into a basic analytics/insights source.

Goals & Success Metrics

  • Dashboard becomes an essential screen that provides relevant insights into a company's spend for admins
  • Surface actionable elements quickly to optimize admin workflows and tasks
  • Allow admins to quickly Identify Cost-Saving Opportunities wherever possible

Users

  • Admins & approvers
  • Budget owners, accountants, CFOs & operations staff

What elements do admins want in an ideal dashboard?

Key insights & Findings

  • Actionable Items Over Visualizations: The testing confirmed that Spend admins prefer to see actionable items first on their dashboard, prioritizing these items over spend visualizations.
  • Tiles as Pathways: Users expected dashboard metrics and tiles to function as quick, clickable routes. They want these tiles to act as pathways that take them directly to where they can complete an action or view more information.
  • Needs Attention and To do List: Admins often forget how to check or resolve items that fall under "Needs Attention," so linking these items directly to where the admin can manage the issue was identified as a significant value-add.
